On June 28, 2008, at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, Manny Pacquiao defeated David Diaz with a 9th round vicious knockout for the WBC lightweight champion.  Pacquiao became the only and greatest Asian boxer ever to win four major titiles in four different weight classes and also became the first Filipino fihter to ever a win a world title at the lightweight division.

After the fight, promoter Bob Arum quickly mentioned his next fight should be against the Edwin Valero or WBA, WBO, and IBF lightweight champ Nate Campbell, but instead he got the fight of his life with Oscar De La Hoya. Pacquiao earned the De La Hoya fight by showing that he can fight at at a higher weight class as he pummeled Diaz with quick jabs, hooks, and that vicious left uppercut.  Clearly Pacquiao's speed and power was too much for Diaz to handle, even though Diaz was naturally the bigger guy.
