Manny Pacquiao is on top of the boxing world and virtually untouchable but these days every fighter seems to want to put theirs on hands on him. Mosley, Cotto, Margarito, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., and of course Mayweather will always be in the mix of potential suitor to match up for the next big fight with Manny Pacquiao. There is no doubt that Pacquiao has built his name up to top elite if not legendary status in the boxing world. Nothing can stop Pacquiao at this time, and his destiny is all within Pacquiao to decide his own fate. In many ways Pacquiao doesn’t even need Bob Arum to promote him, his name will promote itself.
A constant name that keeps making the news as a possible fighter to fight Manny Pacquiao is Sugar Shane Mosley. The tirade of articles purportedly having Mosley and Pacquiao for a big ticket fight is largely because Mosley himself has relentlessly thrown his name out there. Mosley is trying so hard to end his legacy with a big fight that he is even willing to take less money but we all know that when you’re fighting Pacquiao there is no such thing as taking a small share. Though Mosley ever the fighter, is trying to make this fight happen, but he is only making air waves with very little success putting it on the negotiating tables. Hey Mosley, time to get a real promoter or better prove yourself worthy of a Pacquiao fight at your age.
Arum has mentioned Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. as a real fighter for Pacquiao but I don’t think the fan is fond about this one. Manny “The Mexicutioner” Pacquiao needs to take a break from fighting Mexican fighters though Antonio Margarito thinks he’s worth a shot at the pound for pound king, yeah keep dreaming Margarito. Now a real fight that is picking up steam and no its not Mayweather vs Pacquiao but a fight with WBO Welterweight Champion Miguel Cotto. Arum represents both fighters and seems to be hashing up final details to put the fight together sadly to the disaccord of Mosley. Cotto does have a huge fanfare from his fellow Puerto Ricans and will certainly bring in good money but from a mega fight point of view this might not be the best follow up to a Ricky Hatton second round knock out. Cotto defeated Joshua Clottey for the WBO belt on June 13th but barely eked out a split decision and in my opinion doesn’t merit a mega fight with Pacquiao. However it looks more and more probable that Arum will match Pacquiao against Cotto despite many fan’s contention of it.
It all comes round circles back to one man, Floyd Mayweather Jr. which truly has the making of a mega fight just from saying their names in the same sentence. You’re pitting the former and current pound for pound king for a legendary battle between two fearless warriors. Mayweather had to be the culprit in screwing things up by agreeing to fight Marquez instead of waiting for Pacquiao in a end of year but fight of the year contest. I’m hoping Mayweather don’t embarrass himself against Marquez because if he loses, the real dream fight between him and Pacquiao might not ever happen.
There are no walls, no rivers, and definitely no man that can stand toe to toe with Manny Pacquiao at the elite status at this point in his career. It is truly Manny’s first time in his career where his name alone can dictate who he wants to fight. Knowing Manny the great sportsman, you know he will welcome all fighters the chance to test the pound for pound beast, I just hope while Manny Pacquiao earns the big bucks, the fans will also earn a fan worthy contest to be call a mega fight.
