| The Other Pacquiao Boxer: Bobby Pacquiao |
![]() Brothers in boxing are not uncommon these days, such as the Klitschko brothers, both whom are top heavyweight champions, and the much celebrated success of Rafael and Juan Manuel Marquez. The Pacquiao family also packs two brothers in the sport; one of them is the pound for pound king of the ring, while the other brother is living in the shadow of his success. Unknown to many average boxing fans, Bobby Pacquiao, the younger brother of Manny Pacquiao is also a fellow boxer himself. As far as boxing is concern, their genes is where the similarity ends. There is a stark contrast in the success of the two brothers, and younger brother Bobby Pacquiao was not the one that was genetically blessed in the family. Bobby Pacquiao's fighting career is forgotten, and hidden in the dark shadow of the super stardom and worldwide acclaim success of older brother Manny Pacquiao. Bobby Pacquiao’s fighting style is actually very similar to that of Manny Pacquiao’s style. Imagine Manny Pacquiao but without the speed, without the power, without the athleticism, and without that deadly left hook; and what you get is Bobby Pacquiao. Bobby has won a few descent fights in the past, such as defeating Carlos Navarro for the WBC Continental Americas super featherweight title, but his weakness is very obvious. Three weeks before Manny Pacquiao rose even further into legendary status by defeating Oscar De La Hoya, Bobby Pacquiao lost a comprehensive decision to Robert Frankel in the HP Pavilion, California. Bobby Pacquiao with a career record of 29 wins, 3 draws, and 15 losses has also included 8 loss in which he was knocked out. Manny Pacquiao on the other hand has never been knocked out, and is in fact the one that does all the knocking out. Manny Pacquiao has just rocket himself through five weight divisions, while winning world titles in four of them. The lesser known Bobby, however; has lost four of his last six fights. Bobby Pacquiao as recently even took a smashing beat down from Humberto Soto, and his two recent wins, one of them was against a 39 year old Kevin Kelley. The other win was against Fernando Trejo, after the referee stopped the fight because of an injury to Trejo. Being the older brother has placed more pressure on Manny Pacquiao to excel and succeed, something that is plainly missing with Bobby Pacquiao. The Pacquiao brothers will always support each other with their brotherly love, but one must wonder if there is the slightest of jealousy given the enormous success of megastar Manny Pacquiao over his younger brother, Bobby. If you’re a huge fan of Manny Pacquiao, then spare a thought for young Bobby, and who knows one day they may lace the gloves against each other in the ring. Actually, maybe not because as far as the fight quality is concern, this fight would be a far gone conclusion. |
